Sensible Weight Loss
Twenty or more years ago you could just eat anything you wanted and the calories just burned up and your weight stayed the same. No longer? Well, as we get older, metabolism slows down and just doesn’t burn up those calories like it used to. And all those leftover calories turn into fat.
To get rid of the fat, the simple answer is to burn up more calories than you take in. Three things can help to burn those extra calories and take the weight off:
1. Hormone Replacement Therapy, which replaces the hormones that help to increase metabolism and thereby help to burn fat.
2. Add more activity in the form of exercise.
3. A sensible and healthful diet of proper foods and nutritional supplements.
HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) restores the hormones produced by the endocrine system to a level similar to what one had as a young adult. Hormones needed can vary from person to person, but basically, as a person ages, levels of thyroid hormone decrease, and that hormone directly affects metabolism.
Other hormones that affect body weight are estrogen, testosterone and human growth hormone (HGH). A medical doctor must make tests to determine what hormones need replacement and how much is needed. In order to actually restore the dwindling hormones, the replacements must be bioidentical – in other words, exactly the same as the lost hormones, not synthetic.
A sensible exercise program is absolutely necessary to any weight loss plan. Exercise not only increases metabolism, but also keeps the body in working order in other ways. As regards weight loss, exercise simply burns up more calories and helps take that fat off while building up muscle.
Proper diet makes up the third part of the plan. Eating anything just to assuage hunger most likely makes one hungrier, because the body isn’t getting good value for the food taken in. It may still be starved for various vitamins, minerals and/or protein. An expert nutritionist can recommend a good diet and determine what supplements might be needed.
The ideal would be a medical office that would help people tailor a plan which includes all three points above to each person’s individual needs. Such a program results not only in weight loss, but dramatic improvement in mood and energy level and a renewed outlook on life.
