Lilith: (1964) 114Somewhat loyal rendition of debatable J. R. Salamanca novel in regards to a novice therapist who falls in love with a bothered subject. Lilith is an investigating, if not completely pleasing, look at the numerous aspects of madness and love. This would be director-author Rossen’s last film. Cast includes Warren Beatty, Jean Seberg, Peter Fonda, Kim Hunter, Jessica Walter, Anne Meacham, and Gene Hackman. (114 minutes, 1964)
Payday: Acerbic, vibrant picture of life on the street with a conceited, selfish country and western music megastar, a jerk who calls on his supervisor to “fix” some complications that crop up during the concert tour. One of those prototypical early1970s films that makes modern American movie theater come across bland. Cast includes Rip Torn, Anna Capri, Cliff Emmich, and Michael C. Gwynne. (103 minutes, 1973)
Border Shootout: Ignorant rancher is made deputy in Arizona boundary town that’s tired of with aging sheriff Ford, however the townspeople’s lynching of supposed rustlers brings in reference to instant conflict. The Eagle and the Hawk: Contrived action movie set in 1860s Mexico-Texas with O’Keefe and Payne U.S. ordinance enforcers restraining coup to make Maximilian ruler of Mexico; Fleming is fetching love interest. Cast includes John Payne, Rhonda Fleming, Dennis O’Keefe, Thomas Gomez, and Fred Clark. (104 minutes, 1950)
Star Trek: Nemesis: The Romulans have a new leader in power. Since they are the closest starship in the area, the Enterprise is sent to the neutral zone to speak with Preator, the new Romulan leader. He has told the Federation he wants a peace treaty. When the Enterprise arrives they find themselves in the middle of a situation that could lead to the destruction of Earth.
The Nun’s Story: Classy filming of Kathryn Hulme novel, with Hepburn the nun who serves in Belgian Congo and later leaves convent. Colleen Dewhurst, as a homicidal subject, is exhilarating. Cast includes Audrey Hepburn, Peter Finch, Edith Evans, Peggy Ashcroft, Dean Jagger, and Mildred Dunnock. (149 minutes, 1959)
Adios, Sabata: Gunslinger gets engaged with Mexican revolutionaries, he helps himself to a backlog of gold during the voyage. Ersatz continuation to SABATA (with Brynner rather than Lee Minivan Cleet) was titled INDIO BLACK till dubbed and re-titled for U.S. viewing. Authentic continuation, THE REIURN OF SABATA, showed up in 1972. Cast includes Yul Brynner, Dean Reed, Pedro Sanchez, and Gerard Herter. Directed by Blunt Kramer (1970-Western-l04 minutes rated PG)
